One of the things that can be frustrating when using Revit 2012 and previous versions, is the fact that when you produce a new floor plan by clicking Plan View>Floor Plan, Revit will automatically assign a view discipline to your new view. Now this bit is fine, because of course your view HAS to have a view discipline assigned to it.
The frustrating bit is when you have already creating all of your Mechanical HVAC views in Revit MEP and you now need to create your co-ordination views. By clicking on Plan Views>Floor Plan, this will create you yet more Mechanical views.
Ideally you would want to be able to choose what type of views you are creating when using this method. Well the good news is you can, and this is how you can do it…
Right click over your view in your project browser and click Apply View Template, this will then open up the view template dialogue box, Select one of your view templates. Now look at the bottom, you will see there is a tick box which says Apply Automatically to new views of same type. Tick this.
Now when you create a new view by clicking Plan Views>Floor Plan, this will now produce floor plans of the desired discipline.
Some of you now using Revit 2013, will see that this feature has been incorporated into the software.
