AutoCAD has for many years had a very useful property painter function which is useful for ensuring a drawing is presented consistently in terms of colours, layers, linetypes and hatch patterns. It also works well for text, in achieving a consistency in text style, size and font. However, one limitation is that it does not transfer the text string value between entities.
Frequently in survey drawings surface description text is incorrectly labelled and although the text can be edited, this can be a time-consuming process. Fortunately, there are a myriad of add-ins to make text editing a lot easier.
The TextCopyPaste add-in is a free add-in that allows users to select a piece of text and then copy the text string to another element. In the example below, a survey drawing has some text incorrectly described as concrete. However, after a few clicks the text string has been renamed to asphalt.
Once installed, the new command Textcopypaste is available from the command line or from the Add-ins tab on the ribbon menu.
Clicking on the command provides an option of whether to retain the original element and the user just selects the text string to replicate and then select the text element to change. Supported objects include both single line, multi-line text types.
