Creating Layouts
When you are working with small projects, you need to have as many layouts in your drawing as the number of printed sheets required to describe the model. You can create new layouts from scratch (empty layouts), by copying existing layouts in your drawing, or create them from template files. You can then add viewports and other objects to the new layout.
How To: Copy and Rename a Layout
- In the Status Bar, right-click on the layout tab that you want to copy and select Move or copy…
- In the Move or Copy dialogue box, select the layout before which the copied layout is to be added. Alternatively, you can select the (move to end) option to add the copied layout as the last layout tab. Select the Create a copy option and click OK. The new layout is added before the selected layout or as the last layout, depending on the selected option, as shown.
- To rename the layout, double-click on the tab. It is highlighted in blue, and you can type the new name, as shown. You can also right-click on the tab and select Rename.
- When you copy a layout, all the related plotting information and any objects on the layout
(Such as title block, viewports, and notes) are copied as well.
Tip: Best Practice for Layouts
The best way to create a new layout is to copy an existing one that includes all the settings that you want to use. It is recommended that you have standard layouts containing company title blocks and page setups available in template files, so the parameters do not have to be recreated every time you are ready to set up a sheet.
