Sometimes you may receive an executable file from Cymap support prior to a New Release, Service Pack or Hotfix. The simplest way of replacing a file is just to copy over, replacing the original, but if you need to backtrack, all is lost. This document explains how to replace executable files using a simple procedure, that enables backtracking to any number of previous releases.
Suppose you are sent a replacement Lighting.exe file that needs to be saved in the following folder; C:\Program Files (x86)\Cymap folder.
Firstly, you will need Administrator Privileges to write to this folder, if you don’t have these then you will need to ask your IT department to do this for you.
Right click and select Properties.
Then click on the Details Tab.
The build number of the file is 050 or Fifty.
Cancel this dialog and then:
Right Click on the file and select “Rename”.
Edit the extension .exe to .050.
Accept the change by selecting “Yes”.
Then Copy the new replacement file into the same folder.
Because you have already renamed the existing file, you should not be asked if you want to replace the existing file of the same name. If you see this message then retrace your step because the above has not worked.
You should then see the new copied file and the previous renamed file. If you needed to restore the original file just repeat the process but rename the Lighting.exe to Lighting.051 and rename the Lighting.050 to Lighting.exe.
