Where can I change the line type preferences?
This can be found in Utilities>Preferences, as shown below.
The “General” dialogue allows a company name to be entered and also two “Ductwork” tickboxes. These last two options will become clearer when the Line Colour and Style option is seen.
What happens if I don’t tick either “ductwork” box above?
If you don’t tick either box, the chosen “height line styles” will not be used and any duct drawn will be displayed as a continuous solid line for both the centre line and duct physical dimensions (width).
If you tick both boxes you will see both the duct physical dimensions and centrelines displayed as the line type currently set for each Level.
There are currently five types of Line Style but only four are used as defaults.
A suggestion for this “unused” dash-line above would be if you find that the shorter dotted line gets confused with the “Room Outlines” swap them over?
What are the Height Line Styles?
Both the colour and style of the line representing a service (pipe or duct) can be changed by row, column, individually or globally. A user can input a pipe at any desired level, but the default centreline heights in MEPworx are:
“Below Floor” 0.1 m below the finished floor (In screed?)
“Floor” 0.1 m above the FFL. (Low Level).
“Ceiling” 0.1 m below the ceiling void (High Level).
“Ceiling Void” for Pipes 0.1 m above the false ceiling level
“Ceiling Void” for ducts Is the vertical centre of the Ceiling Void to ensure the maximum diameter of the duct can be accommodated within the void.
Can I see an example of the different Linetypes at a single floor level?
The screenshot obtained from MEPworx<>Ducting>View>View in 3D is generated purely to show the different representation of heights taken by duct branches from the main riser below.
Plan of the default four different heights with both “height line styles” ticked.
N.B. the actual duct heights, shown in yellow above, can be displayed by “Right-clicking” on any pipe and remains on view until the next command is used.
Something to think about
What choices would you make to the above model to show a duct in solid outline and a centre line (dot-dash) regardless of changes in height, see below?
