In this ‘How To’ tutorial, we will learn how to Manage Numbered Streets in the DynamicMaps Address & Street Management Application.
When editing the geometry of a Named Street that is associated to a Numbered Street you must consider how changing the geometry of the Named Street will affect the associated Numbered Street.
Reshape Start or End of Named Street
In the next example, we will edit the shape of one of the ESUs on Charlesfield (Street) which is currently associated to our Numbered Street, but this time we will also edit either the Start or End location of the ESU Record.
Having opened the edit page for the associated USRN we can view the Street record in the map.
To identify the ESU records so we correctly reshape an ESU associated to the Numbered Street, tick to display the All ESUs layer and click on the ESU line to view their details in a bubble.
We will reshape this identified ESUID (541475172180).
Now open the Drawing Tools to edit the Street record, and choose the Reshape button.
Left click on the Street record and you you can stretch any existing vertex to a new location…and in this example we will move the end of the Street geometry to a new location.
Having reshaped the Street record, choose the Save button to commit the changes to the system.
If we now Refresh the Edit Streets Page, we can see the geometry of the Named Street has been updated and the Length Value auto updated.
However if we view the associated Numbered Street record, we see that the ESU that we edited has been unassociated with our Numbered Street record. This is because we edited either the Start or End vertex of the associated ESU.
If we check the Street Xref tab we can see the ESUID has been unlinked and the record count is now reduced by one.
We will need to manually re-link or attach the ESU that was reshaped earlier.
Firstly, in the Named Streets page, if we display the All ESUs layer, we can see the ESU that we reshaped now has a new ESUID of 541467172174, which we will use later.
Now, back in the Numbered Street record, Street Xref tab, we can use the Attach Xref ESU button…
… and in the Attach USRN geometry page, we can either search using the ESUID or type the Named Street – in this case Charlesfield.
Here we can see the changed ESUID value – 541467172174 – which we can tick and at the bottom of the page choose Attach.
The list of assocuated Street Xrefs (ESUs) is then updated to attach the chosen ESU(s).
And the Numbered Street record will update to show the Street geometry now includes the re-attached ESU.
Note – in this example by editing the shape of associated ESUs, where you move the location of the Start or End vertex, you will need to re-attach the ESU to the Numbered Street, because the ID of the ESU will have changed.
