Question:
When I choose to display a layer, the Bubbles associated to the layer and the Data Table appears blank – what is causing this issue?
Blank Bubble -
Blank Data Table –
Answer:
This issue will be related to your Layer and /or Bubble settings. As soon as you display a Layer that causes this, a Hits Panel error will occur for the website and the Data Tables and Bubbles for all other layers may also then be affected – so it can be hard to identify the rogue layer.
Using F12 Developer tools – you can see any error messages for the website – and here we can see that the HITS PANEL error has occurred.
Here is an FAQ on a possible cause - https://www.cadlinecommunity.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/360004158557-MapThat-Data-Table-Showing-Latitude-Values - where the Layer Settings have the USE for SIMPLE SEARCH ticked, when the layer is not a Search Layer.
Other advice is as follows:
- Stop all Layers Auto Showing at Project Startup – so you can display each layer one by one to find the rogue layer. This is because as soon as a rogue layer causes the HITS Panel error all layers will be affected.
- For the issue Layer check that the Use for Simple Search is not ticked.
- Then check the Bubble associated to the Role and Layer and ensure that you only have ticks where needed in the following fields:
Show in Data Table
Show in Bubble
Show in Overview
Update Allowed – only use if you are using the bubble to update the layer
Edit Mandatory – only use if you are using the bubble to update the layer and the field is mandatory
Use for Simple Search – only use if this is a search layer bubble
- Also, ensure that you only choose ONE field for AUTO ORDERING in the DATA TABLE. Leave the others BLANK (---).
Having cleaned up your Bubble and Layer settings, the Layer will now show with the Bubble and Data Table working and the Hits Panel Error no longer being activated.
