Question:
Is it possible to quickly add a new Child Address to a Parent Address record in the Cadline Address & Street Management Application?
Answer:
Addresses can be related as Parent, Child, Grandchild etc… So, one common task in your Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) is to associate a new Child Address to a pre-existing Parent Address. For example, where you have a Parent Address e.g., the main building for a block of flats, you may wish to create a new Child record which is the apartment in that block and then relate the Child record to the Parent Address.
Within the Cadline Address and Street Management application use the Address Search to find an Address using the UPRN value.
The resultant record is a Parent Address record.
If you edit the record, in the BLPU Details we can see that the Parent UPRN value is blank because this is a Parent record.
We can also tell that this is a Parent Address, because in the LPI Details section there is no SAON value.
Tip – In the Address Search if you tick the Show Grouped Parents box and run the Search on the UPRN.
.. this time we will find and show the Parent Address record and using the Plus button we can show and hide the associated Child Address records as well.
There are currently 11 Child Address records associated to the Parent Address.
You could use the Create New Address option to create a new Address record. But this will not auto associate it to the Parent Address, and you will have to complete all the BLPU and Address details from scratch.
Or you could choose the Create a Copy of the BLPU button.
The system will ask you if you wish to continue and create a new Address record by duplicating the details from the chosen Parent UPRN. Choose OK.
The new Address record will be created and opens into Edit mode.
The new BLPU record for this Child Address will have taken its core values from the copied Parent Address record. But you can also choose to edit the BLPU Details as needed.
Notice that the Parent UPRN value for the new Address record won’t have been populated, so ensure you enter the Parent UPRN value from the Address you copied.
If you press Save to commit the new Child record, you will receive an error/warning message stating that the new Child Address record needs a SAON value in the LPI Details.
In the LPI Details section choose the edit pencil…
.. and enter the details for the SAO e.g., add in a Flat Name/Number for the new Flat Address record.
Choose the Green tick to save the changes to the LPI Details.
Now press the Save button to save the changes to the whole Address record.
The new Child Address record is created and will be shown as a Pin Marker in the map window, using the Easting and Northing from the copied Parent BLPU.
Choose Save and Close…
….and the new Child Address will be added into the table of Address records associated to the Parent UPRN.
The Create a Copy of this BLPU option in the Cadline Address & Street Management application is a great way to create new Child Address records that are quickly associated to a Parent UPRN.
