I was chatting to Chris Turner last week about our good old friend the ADMS console and rebuilding search indexes. The problem that you generally have is that although you can rebuild the search indexes (as shown below)
And you get a message saying that "A search index has been initiated" there is now way of seeing when this task finishes... until now
A neat trick that Chris pointed out to me, is that you can look at the server tasks, by clicking on "View Server Tasks"
Note that you can see the Search indexing above is shown as a red box, this shows that the index has finished, if you click on "Update" the task will clear. Obviously as it is running, we will see the icon as a green arrow.
In the image above the Search indexing has finished, and is now not shown as a server task!
