Sometimes when working with Autodesk Inventor assemblies, you may need to add a custom iProperty to many files.
This can be time consuming, especially if you have a very large assembly.
Typically, each file (part) will need to be opened and the iProperty manually added to each file.
A really simple and good trick I have found is doing this directly from the assembly Bill Of Materials (BOM).
In the assembly, open the BOM to edit it, then add a Custom iProperty field there.
In my example, I have created a new one called ‘Finish’.
The column is then added to the BOM and you can easily add, edit, drag-copy what you need, just like using Microsoft Excel.
Editing the BOM in the assembly will automatically create and write the iProperty to each file.
In the Part you will get…
This certainly should make your life easier being able to do this so quickly!
Simple but so effective.
