Whilst AutoCAD is typically used to provide accurate 1-2-1 drawings of buildings, sites and mechanical parts, there is also a need to provide schematic or sketch type drawings where elements are broken or squashed for ease of reading or to remove superfluous detail.
Dimensions for the drawing can be added, but a jog might need to be added to show that the drawn element is broken and doesn’t reflect the true overall size or extent. As well as mechanical component details, this can also occur in wall and slab details within building construction documents.
Using the Jog dimension feature allows a dimension object to have a jog symbol added to convey the need that the drawing is a sketch and not to be scaled from. Any size information should be derived from the specified dimension, notes or the person providing the document.
To remove the Jog line simply repeat the command. The jog symbol can also be adjusted with AutoCAD’s grip control handles.
