With older Revit files (before 2018) you will not see the Revit Build date listed as illustrated above. If you right click on an old .rvt file and click properties, it only gives you the date created and the date modified. To find out what Revit Version the .rvt file is we open it in Notepad.
This brings up a text file with a whole lot of complex looking information. Next click the Edit menu and the click Find... (or press CTRL+F on the keyboard).
A search bar now opens. Type B u i l d into the search bar and click Find Next. Put a space between the letters e.g. B (space) u (space) I (space) etc.
This step finds the word Build. Directly to the left of the word Build you will see the version of the Revit file. In this example it is a Revit 2017 project.
