Levels of Detail
Within Revit there are three levels of detail: Course, Medium and Fine.
The office desk family shown here has a partition and a small socket outlet (USB hub).
To assign a level of detail to a part of the family in the family editor you must select the geometry first. By selecting the extrusions for the tabletop and table legs we can assign the three levels of detail by leaving all three detail levels boxes checked.
We only want the socket to be visible in Fine view. Select the socket and then select visibility settings. Uncheck the Course and Medium levels of detail.
Repeat the process for the partition. We only want to see the partition in medium and fine view. Change the visibility settings to not visible at course level of detail.
Before loading the component table family into your project, you can test it by selecting Preview Visibility from the view control bar.
Fine Level of detail will show the whole table family as per the first illustration. You can now load the family into your project and test again.
Note: The table legs, tabletop and socket were created with the extrusion forms tool. The partition was created with the sweep forms tool.
