Autodesk Inventor 2013 has some handy plane and work point creation tools to make your design life easier. Many people do not release these are there. One of my favourites and most commonly used is the “Center Point Of Loop Edges”.
It allows you to very quickly create a work point at the centre of a face or loop. This can be particularly useful when you need to create a sketch on a surface and have it central on that face. Projecting your new centre point into the sketch is a lot quick than trying to constrain the sketch.
The work point updates if the original features are changed before the work point was created. But if you go back and add features above the work point these do not effect it.
Also remember that you can use the “Grounded Point” command to fix the work point in space once created if you do not want it to move.
