Tags are a vital part of working with Revit as they can show parameter data on section and plan drawings including position, offsets, reference notes and material properties.
Material tags are useful to provide a textual note to provide addition clarity to hatching conventions when reading sectional and plan drawings. Occasionally however, the tags show values as question marks despite the manufacturer information and reference being entered in the Material definition as per the image above.

The clue is in the absence of detail and the different fill patterns often assigned to coarse level of detail views. Simply changing the views level of detail to fine, will enable the tag to connect to the correct host information and display the expected information.
