For many years Autodesk’s products have featured a function called the Quick Access Toolbar or QAT. This toolbar is generally located at the top of the screen above the Ribbon menu and contains useful, popular commands including commands like Undo, Redo, Save, Annotation commands etc.
Personally, I prefer to locate the QAT below the ribbon as per the image below, making the buttons easier to access in my view, than the default above ribbon position.
The Revit QAT toolbar is very useful to place labels and dimensions quickly without having to root around for the command on the ribbon and is popular with users who are not fond of using keyboard shortcuts to access commands.
Occasionally however, icons can disappear and although there is a customisation menu to configure the list of buttons, the missing command can be omitted from that menu too.
To restore the interface back to its default range of commands, users need to locate a file called UISTATE.DAT. This file is typically in the following location:-
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 20XX\ENU
Delete this file and start Revit.
The software should now show the default, out of the box, interface with any missing icons or tabs now available to use.
