I was recently asked how to transfer views between Revit projects. Revit can do this for certain items like Sheets, Schedule Views, Reports and Drafting Views, but strangely it doesn’t have the ability to transfer Legend Views out of the box.
This limitation however is addressed by a free Add-in on the App store. Once installed, a button appears on the Ribbon and when accessed displays a similar dialogue to the standard Insert from File command.
The utility will transfer a legend view from a linked Revit file and will transfer the legend to the current file. In a situation where the legends have changed within the parent model, importing the modified legend will add an incremental number, allowing the user to modify and adjust as required.
Rather annoyingly the add-in creates a new tab rather than being placed within the expected Add-ins tab, but the add in works as expected and adds a much-needed capability to Revit’s standard toolset.
The Transfer Legend Add-in is available on the Autodesk App store and works for Revit versions 2018-2023 and can be downloaded from the link below.
