Last year I commented on how earlier versions of Revit were limited when working with linked coordination models including Navisworks NWD files.

With the release of Revit 2024 this limitation has now been resolved. Users can now draw elements such as Revit elements and reference planes. Position these items at set positions and then move and locate the linked coordination model precisely. Snap points cannot be used to place dimension elements on coordination model objects. These objects can only be measured using the measure tool, but by snapping the NWD file to a suitable object like a plane or line intersection point, users can accurately dimension to the construction geometry which is a great improvement upon previous workflows.
Users must ensure that Snap to coordination model and point snaps are enabled under the Manage>Snaps dialogue.
Other points to consider when working with coordination model snap controls include:
- Coordination model points are available only at the ends of the coordination model objects, like end points.
- Based on how the coordination model objects were modelled, joined, or cut by other coordination model objects, snap points might not display all the time.
- Coordination model points do not display midpoints, quadrants, intersections, centres, tangents, perpendicular, etc.
- Make sure you check the boxes next to both the Points and the Snap to Coordination Models options.
- Snap to Coordination Models is available in 3D views only if the coordination model objects are placed on the active work plane.
- Snap to Coordination Model override is not currently working.
- Lines, grids and levels in Coordination Models have several snap points along their length.
- Coordination Model snap points are sometimes temporarily unavailable after creating an element (e.g. line).
