Recently I posted about how a user could create a user defined pattern fill within a text file and bring that into a project. This is not as straightforward as one might expect, but once the pattern is in a Revit project a process is required to be able to transfer these patterns out to a user library or other projects or other 3rd party products. Whilst transfer project standards could be used to transfer fill pattern types and other system families, there is not enough control to be able to selectively transfer patterns between files. This process also limits pattern transfer between Revit format files.
The new export fill pattern to PAT file button is now available to the Fill Pattern dialogue in 2024.1. This will export selected patterns out to a simple text format which then can be imported to other Revit files or other CAD products.
Should users need to import a custom PAT file to their project or families, simply access the pattern fills dialogue from the Manage tab, choose new fill pattern, choose custom and then browse to the custom PAT file.
Once imported these fill patterns can be assigned to materials and used with families or assigned to detail components as required.
