Having been asked by a client how to edit their notes legend, I thought I would share the response here. It has some clever features!
The most important one being if different items are selected to be displayed using a visibility parameter, the notes legend will resize itself. I was intrigued to see how this was achieved.
First we have to make a new legend item, which is a case of selecting an existing one, editing it to the new details and then save as a new named generic annotation. See fig 1.
It is then loaded into the Legend family file, so it can be added to the legend.
The legend items are constrained to Reference lines and controlled by parameters. See fig 2.
Add the new legend item to the bottom of the legend. See fig 3.
Copy the bottom reference and invisible lines to the same offset value below the added legend item. Ensure that the vertical side invisible lines are extended to meet the new lower line. See fig 4.
Constrain the original bottom line to the bottom of the added legend item, then add the parameter and dimension shown in fig 5. Please note that the parameter name to be the same as the legend item with ‘Height’ added.
Create a new visibility parameter for the legend item. See fig 6.
Select the family types button to open the dialogue box. See fig 7.
Add the formula to the parameter you created earlier to complete the process. The first number should be the item height. This blog is dedicated to Natasha from St Mowden Homes as it was her tech support request that enabled me to create the blog.
