My earlier blog showed you how to import a surface created in Civil 3D into Revit and transfer its real-world coordinates. It is also possible to edit the linked surface in the Revit environment adding sub regions and building pads. Also, if the surface is updated in Civil 3D then it can be reloaded into Revit. This will be the first process I will outline.
Reloading a Linked Civil 3D Surface
To reload a linked file, navigate to the Insert Tab and choose the Manage Links button. See Fig 1.
Choose the Topography Tab in the dialogue box that appears. Select the file in the list and choose the Reload option. The file is updated. If the name or the location of the file is different from the original, then the Reload From option is used. See Fig 2.
Adding a Building Pad to a Linked Surface
The process for adding a building pad to a linked model is the same as if it were created in the host file. Navigate to the Massing & Site Tab and choose the Building Pad button. See Fig 3.
Define the area and set the floor level from the base level, select the green tick to complete the process. See Fig 4.
The building pad is added to the imported surface. See Fig 5.
Adding a Sub-Region
The process to add a sub-region is very similar to building pad creation. Navigate to the Massing & Site Tab and choose the Sub-Region option. See Fig 6.
Define the sub region by drawing the perimeter. Use the properties palette to change the material. See Fig 7.
After selecting the green tick, the sub region is complete. See Fig 8.
