Use Global Parameters to control Materials
In my previous blog we used Global Parameters to control dimensions. In this blog we will use Global Parameters to control materials.
Let’s say you are working on a project that has several door families of the same type and material. Suddenly, the material specification changes for all the doors. What do you do? That’s when global parameters can help you.
Select a door and go to type properties. You can now assign a global parameter that has a small rectangle next to it. In this example, we click on the small rectangle of the Panel Material property.
Assign a New Global Parameter to Door Panel Material
Once you have assigned a global parameter, a = symbol appears in the small rectangle, and the parameter name and value greys out.
Assign global parameters to all door type properties.
Next, go to the Manage tab and click on the Global Parameters icon. The global parameters that you’ve created should be there. Try changing the parameter to something else. As shown below, you can replace multiple door family materials at the same time.
