For AutoCAD Electrical to connect to the CATALOG & FOOTPRINT databases within SQL, it expects, as a minimum that the user can create a new category table. This means that any users added within the SQL permissions have to be defined as having full control at an SQL instance level.
At a database table level, you can restrict the users to the actions you wish them to perform. As an example, you may want a user to be able to update but not delete or insert.
Within AutoCAD Electrical, if the above example were followed, this would mean that a user would not be able to create or delete a new part but would be able to edit an existing one. However, because the user has to have full control, the user can create a new category table and therefore as the table is new, create new parts within this new table. If the part has pin connections, terminal levels or cable core details and the manufacturer already exists within the parts database, then the new part could be created within the new table, but the pin connections, terminal levels or cable core details wouldn’t be added as this data would be written to existing tables with permissions set.
