Adding a ceiling grid to a Revit model can be accomplished by firstly activating the relevant ceiling plan in the “Project browser”, then selecting the“Ceiling” placement tool from the ”Architecture” tab in the Ribbon Menu.
Check the correct ceiling type has been selected in the “Ceiling Properties” window.
I find using the Compound Ceiling with either a 600 x 600 or a 600 x 1200 grid gives good results, since both of these display grid lines.
To place the “Ceiling” use either the “Automatic Ceiling” or “Sketch Ceiling” tools from within the “Ceiling” command.
The command defaults to “Automatic Ceiling” since this is a quick option and only requires a mouse click within the enclosed wall area, whereas the “Sketch Ceiling” tool allows the creation of a closed shape from which the ceiling is then be created.
If the Ceiling grid does not have the correct placement, i.e. the ceiling grid requires moving within the room area this may be accomplished by positioning “Reference Planes” and using the “Align” tool in the “Modify” tab to align the “Ceiling Grid” to the “Reference Planes”.
In certain situations the ceiling grid may require rotating.
To do this simply select the edge of the ceiling so that the ceiling boundary and the grid lines are highlighted, using the “Rotate” command in the modify tab rotate the ceiling to the required angle.
However this is now showing an error via the alert dialogue box and the ceiling boundary must be redefined.
Close the displayed alert dialogue by selecting “Remove Constraints”.
Now select the “Edit Boundary” command displayed in the “Modify|Ceilings” tab, make sure to remove the old ceiling boundary. Once done confirm by selecting the “Green Tick” in the“Modify|Ceiling>Edit Boundary” tab. Finished result as below.
