I was recently asked if Revit can change the linework that Revit creates between elements on a cross section view.
The answer is yes, using an often-forgotten tool called Cut Profile. This command is located within the Graphics panel of the View tab.
With the section (or plan) view, select the Cut Profile command, users have an option of picking the face of the object envelope or the material boundary between component layers.
Click the desired option and then select the appropriate edge. Users need to sketch a line boundary indicating the shape of the modified boundary ensuring that the new edge starts and finishes on the selected reference. A blue arrow indicates which way the junction will be modified.
It should be remembered that this cut profile function doesn’t change the model geometry, just how it looks in the view and as such be considered as a detailing tool.
The cut profile can be used to detail recesses in walls in plan views as well, but to change the model geometry tools such as Wall reveals, or void cutting elements might be more appropriate.
