Temporary dimensions are very useful to control relative positions of elements within a project. Clicking on an item like a wall or opening should automatically show dimensions to nearby elements or display the overall length of the component.
Where the measurement is taken it can be configured under the Manage>Additional Settings menu. When working with walls, measurements can be set to either finish faces like plaster, or structural core faces like concrete masonry. Dimensions to openings can either be set to the centre of the opening or opening edges as desired.
With every rule there may be an exception, so in specific examples temporary dimensions can be adjusted to a different measurement using the control handles. This override will be remembered with that object should it be selected later. In the example below an edge of an opening tends to measure to either the end of the wall or to the next opening. However, the dimension has been adjusted to refer to a structural gridline instead.
